Opposition regrets its call for donor aid freeze

The opposition CUF this week said it regretted its decision suggesting the donor community to suspend aid to the country because the move affected ordinary people rather than politicians, the ‘Guardian’ newspaper quoted CUF vice-chairman Shaban Mloo as saying. Last week, Zanzibar’s finance minister, Amina Salum Ali, attacked the party for causing untold suffering to citizens by suggesting an aid freeze. He said it had seriously affected the government’s budget, to the extent that the administration had failed to pay civil servants salaries on time and implement development projects.
