New commander for Bunia

Uganda has appointed a new commander for the northeastern DRC area of Bunia, army spokesman Major Pheneas Katirima also told IRIN. He named the new commander as Colonel Charles Angina and said his deployment was aimed "stabilising the area which has been the scene of inter-tribal strife". The new commander will head a Ugandan army mission in the area which is controlled by the rebel Rassemblement congolais pour la democratie -Mouvement de liberation (RCD-ML), led by Ernest Wamba dia Wamba. Last week, the RCD-ML leader blamed Ugandan officers in in Bunia for siding with his opponents in a bid to topple him. Meanwhile government sources in Uganda told IRIN that Brigadier Edward Katumba Wamala, formerly commander of the fourth division based in northern Uganda, is to replace the Chief of Staff Brigadier James Kazini as overall head of Uganda's military mission in the DRC.
