Donations towards war effort

A Lebanese association and local radio station have donated money, food and other items to Sierra Leone's pro-government forces, the Sierra Leone News Agency (SLENA) reported on Wednesday. Samir Hassaniyeh, the President of the Lebanese Association, told President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah as he presented a cheque for some 25 million leones (about US $122,000) that the donations was meant to express solidarity with Sierra Leone's people and government. The majority of Lebanese in Sierra Leone were born there and so consider themselves Sierra Leoneans, Hassaniyeh said. The Chairman of the Patriotic Trust Fund of Voice of the Handicapped Radio presented Vice-President Joe Demby with food, toiletries and drugs to help the war effort, SLENA reported.
