Meeting on children and women’s rights

Representatives of governments, NGOs and UN agencies on Tuesday began a four-day meeting in Lome on the promotion of children and women’s rights, organised by the UNICEF Regional Office for West and Central Africa. The aims of the meeting include contributing to the integration of a rights-based approach in government policies and programmes and identifying opportunities to advocate for mainstreaming children’s and women’s rights within government, according to UNICEF. The meeting, which ends on Friday, is also meant to prepare a specific strategy for the West and Central Africa Region’s participation in the global “Beijing+5” meeting to be held in New York in June.
