Miners killed underground

Three mineworkers were killed when an overhead rock ceiling collapsed on them in the African Rainbow Minerals gold mine in Welkom, in the Free State province, the South African Press Association (SAPA) reported on Thursday. The unidentified men, two from Welkom and one from neighbouring Lesotho, were killed during a tremor while working about 1,400 metres underground, the report added. South Africa has some of the world's deepest gold mines, which claim an average of about one life every working day.
