Operation underway to save wild animals from flooding river

An operation is underway in Zimbabwe to save hundreds of wild animals trapped by the rising waters of Lake Kariba on the Zambezi River, the BBC reported on Wednesday. According to the report, the animals are facing starvation after being trapped on islands within the lake. “Hundreds of animals are involved, mostly waterbuck, impala, baboon and hippo,” said Peter Ranger of the Zimbabwe wildlife society. “We have been providing wheat, hay, food pellets and silage,” he said. News reports said that the water level in the lake is at highest since the 1980s.
