Fao to assess HIV/Aids impact on agriculture

The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is to conduct a study that will access the impact of AIDS/HIV on the agriculture sector, media reports said on Monday. According to the news reports, the objectives of the study will be to assess the quantitative and qualitative impact of HIV/AIDS on various internal aspects of public and private agricultural extension organisations such as manpower, recruitment, training, management and budget. The study will also focus, through a number of case studies of rural agricultural projects, on the linkages between HIV/AIDS and socio-economic, demographic and socio-cultural factors, which may enhance or discourage risk behaviour.
