South African charged with spying

A South African and 10 other crew members of a Ukrainian plane which was impounded in Zambia last month have been charged with spying, AFP reported on Monday. The 11 were charged with espionage and flying over Zambian airspace without authority. The plane was originally thought to be on its way to UNITA held territory in Angola, to deliver oil supplies. According to the report, a magistrate court last week denied bail to the group and committed their case to the high court for trial. The trial is expected to begin in October and if convicted the group face 20 years imprisonment.
