OAU fills posts in secretariat, rights commission

The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) elected five assistant secretaries-general at its just-ended summit, OAU Chairman Abdelaziz Bouteflika told a news conference in Algiers on Wednesday. Representing West Africa is Nigeria's Lawrence Agubuzu. The others are: North Africa - Said Djinit of Algeria; Southern Africa - Daniel Antonio of Mozambique; Central Africa - Mohamat Doutoum of Chad and East Africa - Vijay Makham of Mauritius. The summit also elected five persons to the African Human and People's Rights Commission in Banjul, The Gambia, PANA reported. They are - Vera Chirwa (Malawi), E.V.O. Dankwa (Ghana), Jainaba Johm (The Gambia), Andrew Chigovera (Zimbabwe) and Florence Butegwa (Uganda) - will join six other commissioners whose tenures have not yet expired.
