SADC meeting on regional conflicts

Defence and security officials from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) are meeting in Swaziland to discuss current conflicts in the region. A spokesperson for SADC said items on the agenda included the ongoing conflicts in Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The group will also discuss the issue of stability in the region. Meanwhile Reuters quoted Zambian Defence Minister Chitalu Sampa as saying: “We shall examine the wars and see how as a grouping we can help to contain them and create stability.” Sampa added: “We have a duty as ministers, guided by defence and security experts to work out packages that ensures peace and development in the region. SADC can only develop with peace.”
