TurkeyTurkey / Syrian refugees / Syrian refugee Juma, 50-years-old, right, from Aleppo and his son Karim, 28-years-old, center, and Juma's wife Zaliha at their home in the Fikirtepe neighborhood in Istanbul, Turkey, Saturday, August 2, 2014. Juma, his wife, ten children and several families have been living in an abandoned building for the past six weeks. "It's been two days, we couldn't buy food. We need money to buy food", said Juma's 15-year-old son Ali. The family gathers water from a neighborhood pump but the building has no doors or windows for protection from the elements. "We couldn't manage our life much more, we had to leave the area (in Syria) with only our clothes, we left everything", said Zaliha, Juma's wife. "Here we don't have a bathroom, we don't have electricity, we don't have water but we stay because of the condition in Syria". Yesterday police came to the home and told the family they had to leave the location by 2pm today. "They asked us to leave and said we must go to the camp", Zaliha said. One family left at midday. Juma and his family packed their bags but seemed unsure if they had the money for the bus ride to Urfa. / UNHCR / S. Baldwin / August 2014 - Credits Shawn Baldwin/UNHCR
