IRIN visited a part of the Aleppo called Salaheddine, controlled by forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad. We found thousands already facing aid shortages and lacking the financial resources to leave. Hajjbahar’s nine-person family has lived in the three-roomed apartment for four years, ever since his home in another area of Salaheddine was targeted by opposition forces. “I was threatened at the start of the rebellion because I was employed by the government,” he said. “They stole all the furniture so we had to flee, and I was told later that they destroyed most of the house and just one room remained.”
