Jordanian peacekeepers injured

Eight Jordanian peacekeepers with the United Nations Mission of Ethiopia and Eritrea were injured when their vehicle detonated a land mine on a road inside Eritrea, the Jordanian news agency, Petra, reported on 24 August. They were subsequently evacuated to the Jordanian military hospital in the Eritrean capital, Asmara, where they received treatment before being discharged, the agency said. The peacekeepers were hurt when their water truck hit an anti-tank mine on the road between Adi Teclay and Sembele, Agence France-Presse (AFP) said. The road had been cleared of mines two months earlier and was regularly used by the Jordanian UNMEE peacekeepers and military observers stationed in the area, but the mine was not believed to be newly laid, AFP said.
