Liberian officials suggest joint monitoring of border

Officials in Liberia have called on Guinea to support joint monitoring of their common border by their security forces, following recent incursions by armed men that have raised regional tension. In a statement on Thursday, the Liberian Cabinet also said Guinea must be held responsible for any harm done to Liberians in Guinea, Africa Numero 1 radio reported. President Charles Taylor announced that he had formed a Cabinet committee to arrange the “immediate repatriation” of Liberians from Guinea. Many Liberians, however, wish to remain abroad because they fear being labeled as dissidents by their government. Guinea and Liberia have accused each other of harbouring dissidents seeking to destabilize their governments.
