US says aid contribution over $100 million

United States humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan amounted to over $100 million this year, up from $70 million in 1999, according to a US State Department fact sheet released on Monday. Aid is distributed through the UN and major non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for food, housing, health and education programmes, demining and refugee assistance. Of every two dollars of global assistance to Afghans, half was for food aid; and of every $10 in assistance, $9 came from the US, the report added
