The island of Barbuda was severely damaged by Hurricane Irma in xxx 2017. The population was evacuated while the Antigua and Barbuda government organises some preliminary clean up and the restoration of power and drinking water. Some day visits by ferry are allowed for residents (and journalists), but the military and police remain in control. Apart from property damage which touched 95% of buildings, stagnant water, dead animals and debris litter the main town of Codrington.
