Cheap HIV/AIDS drugs from India

    JOHANNESBURG
    Burkina Faso's government on Tuesday announced that an agreement to import generic HIV/AIDS drugs from India had been signed. The Ministry of Health said the agreement with India's Chemical Industrial Pharmaceutical Laboratories (CIPLA) would reduce the current monthly price of treatment from about US $150 to between US $37 and US $70 per person. "Where making treatment accessible to persons affected by the pandemic is concerned, the issue of the cost of drugs is a constant and undeniable concern," minister of health, Alain Yoda, told the UN news service PlusNews. Yoda said he was hopeful that new prices would make drugs more accessible, as many people still could not afford the current prices. "Even though the prices have gone down in recent years, they remain an obstacle for a great number of people who really need them," Yoda added.
