President receives British military chief

Britain's new chief of defence staff, Admiral Michael Boyce, met President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah on Wednesday during a two-day visit to Sierra Leone, state-owned radio reported. Boyce visited British military instructors training the new Sierra Leone Army (SLA). He inspected the Benguema training camp and the 4th Brigade of the SLA and told Kabbah that he was impressed by the confidence of the trainees. A British short-term training team is in the country until September. Over 6,500 SLA troops have completed training and another 1,500 soldiers will do so before long-term responsibility is assumed by the International Military Advisory and Training Team, the British Military of Defence said.
