Health strike ends

Health workers on Tuesday ended a strike that paralysed Mali’s public hospitals since 4 October, news organisations reported. The strike ended after the National Health Union released a statement on Monday saying that the government and the union had reached agreement with the mediation of religious, human rights and other civil society groups, Reuters reported. The strikers demanded special status for health workers within the civil service, improved allowances and better conditions of service and retirement. The Union said compromises had been reached on the main demands, according to Reuters.
