ADB funds rural electrification

The African Development Bank (ADB) announced on Thursday it has approved a loan of US $3.80 million to electrify 46 towns and villages in the Greater Banjul area. It said the project should “contribute to the reduction of poverty in those rural areas”. The 26-month project, scheduled to begin in April 2001, would involve the construction of six power stations, one network substation, transmissions lines and underground cables.
