Kagame calls on OAU to follow up reparations

Rwandan President Paul Kagame has called on the OAU to follow up a recommendation contained in its International Panel of Eminent Personalities report urging western countries to pay reparations to Rwanda for failing to react properly to the 1994 genocide. “It is up to the OAU to follow up the issue of reparations because they commissioned the report,” Kagame told radio Rwanda on his return from Togo. The countries implicated in the report are France, Belgium and the US. Meanwhile, Kagame has postponed by a day his visit to Kenya, according to an official Kenyan statement. He was due to arrive on Thursday. No reason was given.
