Major food deficit expected

    LAGOS
    The agency also quoted Agriculture Minister Salvator Ntihabose as saying Burundi faced a 363,000 mt food deficit this year, particularly in the Kirundo, Muyinga and Bujumbura Rural provinces. WFP said much of Burundi is experiencing drought, and about 1.6 million people are affected. The incoming harvest is expected to be reduced due to insufficient rainfall, insecurity and lack of agricultural inputs during cultivation, WFP said.
