WFP distributes 709 mt of food to 100,000 in August

709 mt of food in the Republic of Congo (ROC) regions of Pool, Lekoumou, Bouenza, Likouala and Niari benefiting some 100,000 refugees and vulnerable people was delivered during the month of August, including the distribution of 88 mt of food to 6,600 refugees from the DRC in Loukolela, Likouala region in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), WFP reported in its most recent emergency update. By mid-September, WFP intends to assist 39,000 refugees from the DRC and 5,000 vulnerable people in Impfondo with 331 mt of food. Also in September, WFP plans to assist over 10,000 people affected by recent fighting in Mindouli, Pool region, with 150 mt of food, where WFP already completed distribution of 50 mt of food and provided MSF with 5 mt for its therapeutic feeding centre (TFC), which benefits 350 malnourished children. WFP also announced that, in cooperation with the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the ROC ministry of agriculture, they will assist 3,000 women through food-for-work (FFW) programmes in the Plateaux and Cuvette regions. WFP will provide 351 mt of food over a 12-month period to women enrolled in FAO’s cassava production programme in both regions.
