Fire razes Gitega central market

Fire razed Gitega central market on Sunday causing massive destruction, Net Press reported. on Monday. The fire is suspected to ave started from a restaurant although eyewitnesses have disputed the claims basing their judgement on the extent of the damage. “It is incmprehensible that a market of around four hectare, which is moreover levelled out (having the form of stairs), is completely reduced to ashes by a fire coming from the above-mention restaurant,” it quoted an eywitness as saying. “Almost all the stalls, metallic ones included (the containers for instance ), were razed to the ground and the 10 percent which remained inatc after the fire were systematically looted by onlookers,” he added.
