US recognises limitations of draft accord

US Secretary of Defence Samuel Berger on Thursday said his country was aware the Burundi peace accord would not “immediately solve all the problems facing that country”, AFP reported. “We recognise that this problem is not going to be solved in a day or a week, but we think it is important that we support the peace process in Burundi,” he said. “There continue to be issues that need to be resolved among the 19 Burundi parties.” He added that the US supported Mandela’s efforts, stating it was important for the international community to show it cared about what happened in Burundi.
