President visits UAE

The President of the Transitional National Government (TNG) of Somalia, Abdiqassim Salad Hassan, is on four-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a senior Somali official has told IRIN. He arrived on 15 July and was met at Abu Dhabi airport by the UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sultan bin Zayid al-Nahayyan, Abdirahman Dinari, TNG director of information, said. On Monday, Abdiqassim held a lengthy meeting with UAE President Shaykh Zayid bin Sultan al-Nahayyan, during which they discussed bilateral issues, including on how best the UAE could assist Somalia, Dinari said. Abdiqassim requested Shaykh Zayid to help the TNG in its reconstruction and reconciliation efforts, and also briefed him on the current situation in Somalia. Abdiqassim would meet the large Somali community in the UAE on Tuesday night, Dinari told IRIN.
