Afonso Dhlakama, leader of Mozambique’s main opposition party, RENAMO, has expressed an interest in resuming dialogue with President Joaquim Chissano, Mozambican news reports said on Wednesday.
Dhlakama abruptly broke off talks at the end of March. Dhlakama was quoted as saying that a senior RENAMO parliamentarian, David Alone, held a meeting with the Minister of State Administration Jose Chichava to discuss resumption of the talks.
Meanwhile, ‘Radio Mozambique’ quoted Bento Baloi, Chissano’s press attaché as saying that Chissano had been expecting “feelers” from RENAMO to resume the dialogue.
