Humanitarian community condemns WFP attack

The humanitarian community in Burundi has strongly condemned an armed attack on three WFP trucks last week. In a statement, issued on Friday, it said the three trucks were clearly displaying the WFP logo when they came under attack in Murazi commune in the southeast province of Ruyigi. The trucks were transporting 90 mt of food to assist 20,000 people in Cankuzo province. Four people were wounded in the attack, one seriously. “The humanitarian community in Burundi calls on the warring sides to respect the convention on international human rights and humanitarian workers,” the statement said. It also urged the sides to stop targeting the civilian population and aid workers.
