Genocide victims buried

To mark the anniversary, the remains of thousands of genocide victims were buried at Rukumberi in Kibungo prefecture on Saturday, where Kagame made his speech, Rwandan radio said. Solidarity marches were also held at the Amahoro stadium in Kigali. The event was also marked in the Belgian capital, Brussels, where some 300 people took part in a torchlit procession through the city centre, sources told IRIN. The participants were addressed by Francois Kayitakire, the new chairman of the IBUKA genocide survivors’ association. The genocide was unleashed after a plane carrying the-then president Juvenal Habyarimana and his Burundian counterpart Cyprien Ntaryamira was downed over Kigali on 6 April 1994.
