Foreign Minister visits Yemen

Eritrean Foreign Minster Ali Sayyid Abdullah left for a two visit to Yemen on 4 April, Eritrean radio monitored by the BBC said on Wednesday. The two countries fought a brief war in 1996 over the Hanish Islands, claimed by both countries. Tewelde Medhin, deputy head of mission in the Eritrean Embassy, Nairobi told IRIN that “relations between the two countries are good and have been getting better”. The conflict was resolved in 1999 by international arbitration. Tewelde Medhin told IRIN that the marine border had also been agreed on since the island dispute was resolved. Ministerial committees set up between the two sides before the conflict were now being reactivated, he added.
