Presidential vote set for second round

With the results in from about 90 percent of polling stations in Cape Verde, the two leading presidential candidates appeared headed for a run-off election on 25 February to determine the final winner, news organisations reported on Tuesday. Carlos Veiga of the Movement for Democracy led with 46.7 percent, while Pedro Pires of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde followed closely with 45.8 percent, leaving two other candidates with less than 4 percent each of the votes cast at Sunday’s election.
