Interior minister calls for calm

Ivorian Interior Minister Emile Boga Doudou called on the nation on Wednesday to stop attacking “innocent people”, following mob violence against foreign residents accused of involvement in the failed attempt to topple the government. The attacks - mostly on nationals of Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali and Niger - started after the government alleged foreign involvement in Sunday’s coup bid, local news agencies reported on Thursday. Doudou, in a nationwide broadcast, urged Ivorians to remain calm, adding that hostility to foreigners would tarnish the image of the country, ‘Le Jour’ reported. He reminded the public that Ivorians had also been arrested for their involvement in the revolt.
