The Rwandan capital Kigali has been hit by a severe water shortage, according to the Rwanda News Agency (RNA). The head of the water department in the area, Leopold Mugabo, told RNA that the causes of the shortage were due to an increase in the population, combined with a decrease in river water levels caused by drought and irrigation. He said a project intended to increase water supplies in the Nyabarongo river and Lake Muhazi in the east was expected to be completed next year.
