CEMAC leaders pledge to strengthen subregion

The summit of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) ended on Friday in Libreville, Gabon, with the leaders vowing to strengthen subregional solidarity, fight subversion against member countries and ensure the safety of people and goods. CEMAC, which is trying to set up a subregional court and an Inter-parliamentary Commission, also agreed to resume the activities of the Development Bank of Central African States in Brazzaville by the end of 2000, PANA reported. CEMAC - which in 1999 succeeded the Central African Customs and Economic Union - groups Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
