Draft constitution ready by October

A draft of Swaziland’s constitution is expected to be ready by October, news reports said on Friday. Martin Dlamini from the constitutional review commission was quoted as saying: “We have to present the draft constitution to King Mswati III by 31 October, before he goes into seclusion.” The King goes into seclusion in early November at the start of a traditional thanksgiving ceremony. The King appointed the commission four years ago to draft a new constitution in response to calls for political reform in Swaziland which has been ruled by royal decree since his father, King Sobhuza II repealed the constitution in 1973.
