Rwanda, US sign grant agreement

The governments of Rwanda and the US on Wednesday signed three strategic grant agreements worth US $15.1 million bringing the total of US assistance to US $485 million for the period between 1994 to date, the Rwanda News Agency (RNA) reported. “Things are not easy in Rwanda because of poverty,” RNA quoted Finance and Economic Planning Minister Donat Kaberuka as saying. “We are therefore happy to be signing the strategic objective agreements and as such, we intend to implement all our commitments as per agreements,” he noted. The funds, granted through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), is supposed to be disbursed in the areas of rule of law and transparency in governance, and the health and social services sector.
