The United Nations was preparing to evacuate 47 non-essential staff and their dependants from Asmara, UN Resident Coordinator Simon Mhongo said on Tuesday. The evacuees would include five foreign workers at the Asmara mission, who would be relocated to Nairobi, and 22 agricultural experts from India, who had been working with the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Mhongo told IRIN. Many of these were working on projects affected by the war and would now fly home to India, he added.
