BA cancels flights to Islamabad over US attacks

British Airways reported on Wednesday, 12 September, that it had suspended flights to the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, because of its proximity to Afghanistan, in the aftermath of Tuesday’s wave of terrorist attacks on US targets. The British carrier had already cancelled flights to North America. “Flights to and from Islamabad operate close to Afghanistan, so that’s our reasoning,” a BA official stated. The ruling Taliban Islamic Movement of Afghanistan has given sanctuary to Saudi Arabian militant Usama bin Ladin, whom the US has blamed for attacks on US embassies in East Africa in 1998.
