Mandela not considering conflict mediation

The office of former South African president Nelson Mandela has said he is not considering mediating in the conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Burundi, media reports said. This follows a call, separately, by rebels in the DRC and members of Burundi’s main opposition party this week for 82-year-old Mandela to mediate in their respective conflicts. “No one has formally requested Mandela to mediate in these conflicts,” his spokesman was quoted as saying, adding, however, that if he is formally approached, then he will consider the requests.
