Rukban is an informal settlement of Syrians camped in the no-man's-land between Syria and Jordan. The Jordanian government is only allowing a small number of Syrians to enter, and only after stringent security checks. The population of the camp is estimated to be 60,000 in June 2016. Aid workers and journalists are not allowed to enter, and only provide rudimentary relief from the Jordanian "berm" - a raised earth barrier marking the start of Jordanian control. The official, un-demarcated border lies somewhere between the Syrian and Jordanian berms in a demilitarised zone.
