US funding for herbal AIDS alternative meds

The US Embassy in South Africa said the trials are expected to test the safety and efficacy of plant-based therapies already being used in response to AIDS in parts of the continent, such as the sutherlandia plant and African wormwood. The International Centre for Indigenous Phytotherapy Studies, a collaborative research effort involving many US and South African research institutions, has been elected to lead the trials.
