GSK to boost HIV/AIDS healthcare rollout

Multinational drug manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has announced a multimillion-dollar programme to improve HIV/AIDS treatment at 60 facilities in Kenya. The firm's CEO, Jean Pierre Garnier, said the US $1.8 million initiative aimed to advance healthcare delivery and strengthen access to support services in the country's most deeply affected communities. In a statement Garnier said, "Together we will bring hope and improved treatment to thousands of people affected by the pandemic in Kenya." He noted that the three-year project, funded by his firm's 'Positive Action' community support programme, had the potential to be rolled out in other African countries as well. According to the National Empowerment Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Kenya, there are an estimated 2.2 million people living with the HI virus.
