South African health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang has accused critics of failing to understand the strategies used by government to address the country's HIV/AIDS pandemic.
On Tuesday, the opening day of the four-day 2nd South African AIDS Conference in the port city of Durban, she advised her critics against pinning their hopes on anti-AIDS drugs alone, and said "a holistic approach" should be considered as part of the AIDS solution.
Civil society was urged to join forces with the government in containing the spread of the disease.
