Participation of all urged in AIDS survey

South Africa's groundbreaking AIDS survey kicked off again this week. Olive Shisana, executive director of the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), urged all South Africans to participate in the 2004 national HIV and AIDS survey. A local newspaper, the Pretoria News, quoted Shisana as saying: "High participation in the study will increase the country's understanding of HIV/AIDS, as well as enable us to tackle the challenges brought by the disease." The study is the second in two years, and will help determine the prevalence of the disease. A total of 15,000 households across all races, socioeconomic groups and geographical locations have been selected to participate.
