Global Fund millions to be disbursed in June

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has announced it will disburse at least US $900 million during its fourth round of grants in June. Following the confirmation of a recent US pledge of $547 million, the Fund said in a statement that the money had "substantially" increased its resources. The Fund also said it would work to scale up its own funding before the June disbursements, and coordinate its efforts with President George W Bush's global HIV/AIDS initiative. The "President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief" will spend $9 billion over the next five years on HIV/AIDS programmes in Africa and the Caribbean.
