South Africa to increase military contingent

South Africa could soon increase its military contingent in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to 150, South African news agency, SAPA, reported. It quoted South African Defence Minister Mosiuoa Lekota as saying on Thursday that he intended to ask for another 50 military police members to join the 98 South African troops already performing military police duties for the UN peacekeeping mission in the DRC. Lekota said South African National Defence Force chief, General Siphiwe Nyanda, had recently visited his troops in the DRC and was impressed by their professionalism. "He is very happy with our performance out there," SAPA quoted him as saying.
