Flooding puts end to drought

Floods have hit parts of southwest, central and northern Iran after torrential rain lashed the areas over the weekend. State media reported that in central Lorestan province, over two inches of rain fell, while 4.5 inches of rain pounded the northern province of Ghilan. AFP said rain and snow has been falling heavily on Iran’s plateau and mountainous regions, putting an end to the country’s longest drought in 30 years. It added that the drought crisis had forced Iran to accept international help for only the second time since the 1979 Islamic revolution.
