State relief ordered for quake victims

President Emomali Rakhmonov has ordered that over $1 million be allocated for the immediate rehabilitation of homes damaged in the earthquake on 31 October in Farkhar (in the southern province of Kathlon) and Moskva district (on the Tajik-Afghan border), ‘Tajik Radio’ reported on Thursday last. The decision to make a one-off payment to families whose homes were ruined came two days before a second earthquake, measuring 5 on the Richter scale of intensity, struck the Soghd region, 130 km north of the Tajik capital Dushanbe, ‘Asia-Plus’ news agency reported on Monday. The Tajik emergency services and civil defence ministry had so far not received reports on damage, it added.
