US aid for Angolan refugees

The US government has granted US $1.3 million to UNHCR in Zambia to cater for the needs of newly-arrived refugees from war-torn Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), news reports said. In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, the US ambassador to Zambia, David Dunn, said the amount was part of a donation of US $3 million his government had set aside for programmes in Southern Africa. “This contribution emphasises America’s interest in ensuring that protection activities as laid out in the global appeal for this region are fully implemented in a timely manner,” Dunn said.
