British minister visits Ruhengeri

British Secretary of State for International Development Clare Short travelled to the northwest prefecture of Ruhengeri on Tuesday as part of her three-day visit to review progress in the implementation of a 10-year “partnership”, signed last year between the UK and Rwanda, in support of the country’s economic and social development. A press release from the British Embassy in Kigali said that Short’s visit to Ruhengeri would “provide an opportunity for the minister to see for herself the improvement of the security situation” in the area. She was planning to visit the communes of Nyarutovu and Kinigi, where she would speak to “grassroots leaders”, the release added. Short was expected to meet President Paul Kagame in Kigali on Wednesday.
